How To Split Payment Methods Online

In terms of retail sales in the United States, Visa was the most popular credit card used in 2019. When it comes to accepting digital payments online, some customers may want to split purchases with two different credit cards. Unfortunately, it is extremely unusual for online stores that allow the combination of two or more cards.

This is due to several factors including the lack of security, logistical issues, the potentially high expense, and the sophisticated technology required to do so. However, it is possible to split payments online by combining an electronic gift card and a credit card on some platforms.

Using a Gift Card and a Credit Card

Depending on your eCommerce platform, you can give customers the capability to pay part of their balance with a gift card and part of their balance with a credit card. This is because gift cards don’t need as many verification processes that credit cards do, since third parties aren’t typically willing to shoulder the extra risk involved with accepting two credit cards.

You may need to install a third-party add-on to your eCommerce store or get in touch with your payment provider to see if they offer this option.

During the checkout process, the customer will need to enter the unique gift card code in addition to their credit card details in order to purchase the item. The listed value that will be deducted from each payment method should be clearly stated during their purchase.
